When cars die, the multitude of parts have different trajectories in the landscape of waste.

Electronic parts are sold for re-use or to e-waste collectors, precious and scrap metals are recovered, and components such as the transmission and brake fluid are refined into black oil that is used for machinery. Pollutants such as asbestos are dumped, AC gas is released into the atmosphere, and other unusable parts are burned.
