Why throw things when we can repair and reuse them? It is high time to formalize the repair economy

Products don’t become outdated by themselves; worldwide planned obsolescence is diminishing the requirement of repairing to increase the longevity of a product, leading to the generation of more waste, particularly e-wastes. India has an old repair tradition and culture, but these businesses are also in danger due to the more use-and-throw parts and gadgets which are expensive and difficult to repair.

India needs a formal repair industry for a sustainable futur

Chintan partnered with Friedrich Ebert Stiftung, and has acknowledged individuals who are a part of the largely informal repair industry in Delhi as ‘climatic warriors.’ The video also creates an awareness of the dire need for a robust repair economy in India. It would provide more space for those who represent the repair sector and their integration into the mainstream economy, which will not only slow down consumption, but also foster skills, boost employment, and increase demand for repaired products.
