A successful mission that made Dhanaulti, a tourist spot in Uttarakhand cleaner with efficient waste management.

Dhanaulti, a place known for its scenic beauty as a hill town, was suffering from a lack of proper waste management. The wastes were dumped here and there, tarnishing the natural beauty and polluting the rivers.

Lack of waste management was damaging Dhanaulti’s biodiversity.

Chintan in association with the government-run Uttarakhand Forest Resource Management Project, worked meticulously to educate the people about waste management. Several campaigns and group discussions taught them to segregate dry waste and wet waste, compost wet waste, recycle wastes like plastic bottles, and switch to durable and reusable alternatives in hotels and restaurants than use-and-throw crockeries. Chintan succeeded to change the habits of waste dumping and provided adequate safety measures to the waste workers who were a part of the door-to-door waste collection. The residents, in turn, also sensitized the tourists about cleanliness. Today, the inhabitants of the town thank Chintan as Dhanaulti stands as an example of proper waste management to neighboring hill towns of tourist attraction.
