Arjun Sharma
has helped set up Project Arman, where 4 batches of over 150 children each - both waste pickers and beggers-have begun studying, learning about their rights, and in several cases, joined mainstream schools full time. Many parents have also bought into the idea of education. Thanks to Arjun's concern for the state of India's children, we are a step closer towards being a society that doesn't live off the labour and lost childhood of a young person.

The Taj Group of Hotels, Delhi
have worked with Chintan to ensure that waste picker children in various parts of Delhi are able to get an education, and taken for regular educational and recreational outings. They have helped retain these children's dream of becoming fulfilled citizens of this country.

Ritu Prasad
donates a sum of cash every month to ensure that waste picker children are receiving the attention they require to get an education, health and their rights. Ritu has also donated her children's old clothes in prime condition to those who are less privileged.

John Tarpey's
donation to Chintan has helped us increase the number of teachers, buy more teaching aids and upgrade our teaching quality across various learning centers. This in turn means that the children learn more, and we can cover more children.

Niharika Bhattacharya
has helped renovate and upgrade a community space that is used by adult wastepickers for training and meetings several times a week.

Larry Hirsh's
donation has enabled us to extend education to 200 children who live on Delhi's largest landfill and pick up waste from there. There is no school within walking distance, so Larry's intervention with Chintan has ensured that these child workers getan opportunity to stop spending their days in the trash.Jehan Sethna donated several thousand T-shirts for the waste pickers of Chintan, specially produced for them. These T-shirts became an armour for waste pickers all over Delhi, helping police and other civic officials recognize them, with a resultant reduction in harassment.civic officials recognize them, with a resultant reduction in harassment.

Meet ourDonors

Arjun and AbhinavChhabra

1. What are your names and how old are you?

Our names are Arjun Chhabra (17) and Abhinav Chhabra (15).

2.Where do you live?

We live in Bethesda, Maryland, US.

3.How did you learn of Chintan?

We were always interested in helping society. When we learned about our trip to India, we thought that it would be a great opportunity to intern at Chintan, while simultaneously helping our local community in India. Luckily, we knew Bharati Chaturvedi, the founder of Chintan personally. That's why we felt that Chintan would be the perfect NGO that we could volunteer at.

4.How did you raise the money?

We raised the money in two different stages. Firstly, we held samosa sales at. our schools, which were a sellout. We raised $800 (Rs. 37500) from them alone. Excited by our results, we also committed to begin asking for private donations through others in our community. This effort is under way, but we have already raised about a $1000 (Rs. 46900). Our goal is to reach $5000.
